FemFest keeps pushing boundaries

FemFest 2010: On the Edge presents theatre and performances by women that push conventional theatrical boundaries. This year, a not-to-miss highlight is She by internationally acclaimed artist d'bi.young, who incorporates dub poetry into her theatrical performance.

 

Other best bets include:

Raunch: The Rise of The Female Chauvinist Pigs! by Alice Nelson and Jacqueline Russell. Best of Fest Winnipeg Fringe 2009!

The Vajayjay Monologues – "A remix, revolt and call for revolution" by Calgary's Lindsey Burns.

The launch of a new anthology, featuring sixteen women playwrights, including Maureen Hunter and Margaret Sweatman, and a collection of scenes targeted at young female performers.

Readings from new scripts in development including Breast Milk, Best Milk by Primrose Madayag Knazan.

Two fantastic evening cabarets featuring performances by drum group Insisto and the Mad Young Darlings.

FemFest runs Sept. 25-Oct. 2 at the Canwest Centre for Theatre and Film (at the University of Winnipeg, 400 Colony St.). Tickets: $10 per show or $50 for a festival pass.
